Local Schools Get Gardening!
The Old Railway Line Garden Centre, located in Three Cocks between Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, visited five local schools last week to launch a new growing initiative for youngsters.
Events Manager, Matthew Lewis said “We are delighted to launch our new growing competition for local schools in the Gwernyfed catchment area. We love working with children to inspire and educate them about gardening. We have donated all the materials needed to grow their own potatoes and will award the school with the heaviest crop £100 worth of vouchers for future gardening projects.
“I’ve visited Clyro, Llyswen, Hay-on-Wye, Talgarth and Llangorse primary schools last week to offer information about growing fruit and vegetables at home. I also helped classes plant their seed potatoes and shared my secret tips of how I produce bumper crops at home!”
“We hope to encourage more schools to get involved next year and always welcome teachers to get in touch if they need help and advice with gardening projects.”
