Acer palmatum 'Little Princess,' commonly known as the Japanese Maple Tree, presents an enchanting display with its delightful red-green summer foliage transitioning to vibrant yellow and orange hues in the autumn. Characterised by a slow-growing and compact habit, 'Little Princess' emerges as an ideal choice for small gardens or patio pots.

Flourishing best in sun or partial shade, this cultivar attains optimal results when shielded from harsh winds to prevent potential leaf scorching. The plant sustains a modest stature, reaching a final height and spread of 1.5 meters each, contributing to its suitability for confined garden spaces.

Key Features:
Common name(s):
Japanese Maple
Hardiness: Hardy
In Bloom: Spring - Autumn
Eventual Height & Spread: 1.5m; 1.5m
Position: Full sun, partial shade, away from harsh winds
Soil type: Moist, well-drained

Care Tips for your Acer:

  • Regular Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Water deeply and thoroughly to ensure the roots receive adequate moisture.
  • Mulching: Apply a layer of mulch around the base to help retain soil moisture and regulate temperature. This also reduces weed competition.

  • Light Requirements: Place the tree in a location with partial shade to avoid scorching the delicate leaves, especially in hotter climates. Morning sun and afternoon shade are ideal.
  • Soil Conditions: Ensure well-drained soil. Japanese Maples prefer slightly acidic, loamy soil rich in organic matter.
  • Protection from Wind: Choose a sheltered location to protect the tree from strong winds, which can damage the foliage.

  • Regular Pruning: Prune the tree in late winter or early spring before new growth starts. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain a healthy structure.
  • Shape Maintenance: Light pruning during the growing season can help maintain the desired shape and size, but avoid heavy pruning during this time to reduce stress on the tree.

  • Balanced Fertiliser: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers, which can promote excessive foliage growth at the expense of root development.

The plant's growth rate and size will vary depending on planting position & conditions. Bloom, foliage and interest may vary from photo upon delivery, dependant on season.

We have a selection of different couriers we offer for delivery depending on the size and weight of the parcel. Your order will either be delivered by Royal Mail, Evri or Parcelforce. Furniture sets or large items will be delivered using a kerbside pallet delivery service.

What is a kerbside pallet delivery service?

Most of our furniture sets and some larger or heavy items such as compost will be delivered using wooden pallets. These pallets will be delivered using a heavy goods vehicle and will need plenty of room to deliver as well as needing someone to sign for the delivery.

Kerbside delivery means that pallets will be delivered to the nearest kerbside at the address specified. The driver will position their vehicle as close as possible to the delivery address and unload the palletised goods into a spot on the kerbside that is safe and keeps the pallet secure. This is to ensure the safety of the driver, the customer and the general public. The driver will not be able to wheel the delivery across any uneven surface such as grass, gravel or up or down steps and will not unload the items from the pallet or take the pallet away with them.

With a kerbside pallet delivery service, we are able to select a specific date for delivery which best suites you. Once an order has been placed, we will contact you to discuss your preferred delivery date.

If there are any possible access issues for a larger vehicle to your address please inform us in order for us to make alternative arrangements.
