How To Plant a Hanging Basket
Hanging baskets are beautiful way to decorate your outdoor space; decorating an empty wall or providing colour to your front porch. No matter what the purpose, they look lovely and can be so much fun to create your own. We have pre-planted hanging baskets in-store that you can browse through. However, we think creating and planting your own is such a great activity at this time of the year and you can make the basket completely your own! In this blog we’ll talk you through how to plant a hanging basket.
So how do you plant your own hanging basket?
Planting your own hanging baskets takes a bit of time, but the process is easy and it’s worth it to know that you’ll have a final result that is fully your own design.
- Pop in and choose a basket, liner, and the plants of your choice! If you’re not sure which to choose, our friendly, knowledgeable team will be on hand to give you help and advice!
- Now the fun begins! Firstly, insert your liner giving your basket a base.
- Add in your base layer of potting soil. We recommend Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Enriched Compost. It contains a special water retaining agent which absorbs twice as much water as ordinary multi-purpose compost, stopping your plants drying out and making watering easier!
- Cut your liner to fit appropriately if needed and add your chosen plants to your basket!
- Once you’ve arranged and planted your flowers, top up your basket with your soil! The good thing about Miracle-Gro Enriched Compost is that you won’t need to give your plants extra feed as it’s all in the soil and will last up to 6 months! If you’ve decided to use a general multi-purpose compost, then it will be a good idea to fertilise and maybe even give your baskets a weekly feed with liquid fertiliser.
- Now all that’s left to do is hang your baskets, admire your work, and keep them watered!
Planting hanging baskets is a fantastic activity to enjoy with family or friends, getting you out in the garden and spending quality time together. Let us know if you’re planting your own this year and share pictures with us on our Facebook or Instagram.
