Key Features:

  • Sweet & Crisp Flavour: Offers a fresh, sweet taste with a satisfying crunch, perfect for eating raw, adding to salads, or cooking.
  • Edible Pods: Unlike traditional peas, both the peas and the pods are edible, making it a versatile addition to any dish.
  • Fast Growing: Ready to harvest in just 8-10 weeks from sowing, providing quick and delicious results.
  • Space-Saving: Ideal for small gardens, containers, or raised beds, Mangetout peas thrive in compact spaces.
  • Easy to Grow: Requires minimal care, making them an excellent choice for beginners or those looking for an effortless crop.

How to Grow Fothergills Oh Sow Simple Mangetout Pea:

  1. Prepare the Soil:
Peas prefer well-drained, fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot in your garden or use containers or raised beds for more controlled growing. Ensure the soil has a neutral pH of around 6-7 for optimal growth.

  2. Sow the Seeds:
Sow the seeds directly into the soil in early spring when the ground is workable and there is no risk of frost. Plant the seeds about 2-3 cm deep, spaced 5-7 cm apart. If sowing in rows, space the rows about 30 cm apart to allow enough room for growth.

  3. Provide Support:
Mangetout peas are climbers and benefit from support, such as a trellis, netting, or canes. Ensure the plants have something to climb as they grow for best results.

  4. Water Regularly:
Keep the soil consistently moist, particularly during dry spells. Ensure the water reaches the roots, and avoid getting the leaves wet to prevent fungal diseases.

  5. Harvest:
Mangetout peas are typically ready to harvest in 8-10 weeks. Pick the pods while they are still young and tender for the best flavour and texture. Harvest regularly to encourage further pod production and ensure a steady supply.

Fothergills Oh Sow Simple Mangetout Pea is the perfect choice for gardeners looking to grow a delicious, healthy crop with minimal effort. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced gardener, this variety will provide you with a high-yielding, fresh crop of sweet, crisp peas to enjoy all season long.
