Product Description

The Azalea japonica 'Gilbert Mullie' is a beautifully formed evergreen azalea known for its compact, spreading habit and glossy ovate leaves. New foliage emerges bright green before maturing into a rich, dark green that provides excellent contrast against the striking rose-pink blooms that arrive in late spring. Each flower features subtle darker speckles, adding depth and visual interest to the display.

This versatile azalea flourishes in partial shade and is especially well-suited to north- or west-facing aspects. Its ability to grow in loam, clay, or sandy soils—provided they are acidic and moist but well-drained—makes it a dependable choice for gardeners looking to brighten shaded areas, create low evergreen structure, or enhance mixed borders. Hardy to –15°C, it withstands UK winters with ease, offering long-lasting performance and minimal maintenance.

Ideal for planting in pots, woodland gardens, rockeries, or as part of an ericaceous planting scheme, 'Gilbert Mullie' adds elegance and colour to any garden for many years to come.
